Archie Liggat (Trustee, UK National Chairman)
Archie was born and brought up in the Highlands of Scotland. After graduating from Glasgow University with an Honours BSc in Aeronautics, he joined the Royal Air Force as an air defence fighter pilot flying fast jets. An A1 category Qualified Flying Instructor and Tactics Instructor on 2 different types, he also flew as solo display pilot during the last year of the F4 Phantom in RAF service. Following 4 years as Officer Commanding Nos 234 and 19 Squadrons, he moved to civil airlines in 1996 where he spent the next 20 years flying the Airbus A320 and Boeing 747. Archie is now fully retired, has been a member of Sky Watch since 2009 and has amassed over 19,000 flying hours. He lives in St Andrews.
Will Roomes (Trustee and UK National General Secretary)
Will has enjoyed a varied working life, including Military Musician in the Grenadier Guards Band, Structural Design Engineer, Teacher of Physics and School Administrator. Will became a Director & Gyroplane Flight Instructor at Highland Aviation in 2017 based at Inverness Airport. He spends much of his time now training the next generation of gyroplane instructors and students, and also holds the role of Accountable Manager for the company’s various CAA approvals. As a keen aviator and supporter, Will has completed a number of successful sorties during his membership of the charity.
David Brown (Trustee)
Though English, David has lived longest in Scotland, being posted to Royal Air Force Kinloss early in his Nimrod maritime reconnaissance service. He served with 120, 206 and 42 Squadrons and on exchange with the Orion on 10 Squadron, Royal Australian Air Force. Originally an acoustics warfare specialist, supervisor and instructor, after commission he captained his own crew and several operational detachments. Progressing through heading simulator training, flight and operational command to fleet flying and operational standardisation roles, his later tours included large scale joint exercise planning and coordination and management of the ISTAR fleets. Finally, as an Aerospace specialist, he was Defence Planning staff in the NATO HQ in Norfolk, Virginia. David has flown gliders and light aircraft since his teens, was latterly an Air Cadet Motor Glider Instructor and, now retired, enjoys discovering even more of Scotland and beyond both from the air and on the ground. David lives with his wife in Forres, Moray and has two grown children.
Lorne McCallum (Trustee and UK National Treasurer)
Lorne was born and brought up in Ayrshire and has recently entered retirement from an international career as an Electrical Engineering & Power Systems Consultant. This followed B.Eng (Hons) graduation from the University of Strathclyde, being a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
In addition to flying his MTO Sport gyrocopter based just South of Prestwick and being a member of Sky Watch since 2011, he is also a keen motorcyclist, sailor and continues to be an active crew member in his home town on RNLI Troon Lifeboat with 25 years search & rescue experience.
Jeff Smith (Trustee and UK National Vice Chairman)
Jeff Smith is on record as “The most successful Author of all time” on the subject of KPI and Business Strategy. He’s a Motivational Speaker, Business Trainer and the author of the best-selling books in the world on the subject of key performance indicators. He’s a truly global speaker with more than 25 years of professional speaking experience, he’s spoken in more than 74 countries, hundreds of cities and he’s privileged to have touched the lives of millions of people all over the world. He’s worked with royalty, a string of fortune 100 companies and made a whole series of television programmes for Sky TV. Jeff is the Senior Officer of UK Civil Air Patrol for England & Wales, the largest regions in the UK and he flies a Cavalon Autogyro based at Halfpenny Green in Wolverhampton. He’s been a pilot with the charity for a number of years and was appointed to the Board of Trustees in 2019.
